Thirty-One Nights of Dessie Cat
Halloween is the one night you can be anyone. We gave Dessie Cat the whole month and a costume trunk, and she showed up as someone new every single day.
Most people pick one costume, wear it to one party, and fold it into a drawer until next year. Dessie Cat treated October like a run of shows. Every day of Halloween season she arrived on set as someone new: a space pilot in liquid blue, a carnival clown with neon-green curls, a nurse in candy pink, a street fighter under a concrete overpass, a vine-wrapped garden villain by the window. The only rule was that there were no rules.
That is the whole point of Halloween. Cosplay asks one question, who do you want to be tonight?, and then hands you permission to answer it out loud. Dessie answered it a different way every morning, and the Cat House crew followed her from penthouse balconies to balloon-filled bedrooms to a sunlit living room with a stone fireplace.
Over the next pages: six runway looks, a centerfold, every frame from the month, and a game room in the back. Watch for the ghosts. They drift through every page, and you can catch them.
Carnival After Dark
Neon-green waves, painted freckles, a metallic purple two-piece, fishnet sleeves, and one cyan stocking against one violet. A bed buried in balloons. Loud on purpose, sculpted on purpose, and the most-photographed look of the season.
Space Bunny Pilot
Liquid-blue metallic, a satin bow with a winking cartoon bunny, a cat-ear headset and a candy-colored blaster held like a campaign prop. Half fighter pilot, half midnight fantasy, against damask wallpaper.
Sailor Trio
Three sailor collars cut sharp as origami on a glass balcony high over the city. Pink and navy bows, thigh-highs and striped socks. The skyline became a private runway.
Night Shift Nurses
First shift: pink curls, cat ears, a stethoscope worn like jewelry and a fluffy pink-and-white tail. Second shift: scarlet hair, a white cap with a red cross, and a very dramatic angle.
Poison Garden
Scarlet waves threaded with real ivy, a dark green lace corset and strappy bottoms. Arms raised, vines worn like jewelry in the window light. Beautiful, and a little dangerous.
Street Fighter
Black hair with blunt bangs, a white crop, a harness skirt and red fingerless gloves under a concrete overpass. Fists up, editorial polish, classic fighter energy.
Dress up as whoever you want. Then do it again tomorrow.
The Centerfold
Moonlight Cat
Long purple hair, ornate cat ears hung with a crescent-moon chain, one claw raised toward the lens under purple neon. Our pick for the night that belongs to cats.

Three Halloween puzzles inspired by Dessie’s costume month. One is easy, one tests your memory, and one is for the sharpest minds in the house.
Pick a letter. Six wrong guesses and the candles go out.
Flip two cards. Match the costumes. Fewer moves wins.
Dessie left a note on the costume trunk, written in an old code. Every letter has been shifted forward through the alphabet by the same number of places. Clue: count the lives of a cat.
